Envisioning the future classroom: Progressive education, indigenous systems of knowing, and AI

Progressive education models present a hopeful solution for rejuvenating our public education system, particularly in response to the challenges of underfunding and corporatization. These models excel in fostering the holistic development of students, not just academically but in their social, emotional, and creative capacities. This comprehensive approach is invaluable, especially where traditional methods have overly focused on test scores and rote learning due to limited funding.

Moreover, progressive education embraces the concept of individualized learning. This allows students, especially in underfunded schools, to learn at their own pace and pursue their interests, leading to more engaging and effective education. In addition, these models champion collaborative and experiential learning. Students participate in group projects, hands-on activities, and learn through real-world applications, offering an engaging alternative to conventional, lecture-based teaching.
